Von Lintel Gallery is proud to participate in The Photography Show presented by AIPAD at the Park Avenue Armory in New York, April 23 - 26, 2026, presenting five radically different approaches to photography in Booth A-20.

Von Lintel Gallery

The Von Lintel Gallery booth at the Photography Show is centered around the idea of presenting five radically different approaches to Photography. Each of these five artists, Lucia Engstrom, Bahar Kural, Carolyn Marks Blackwood, Osceola Refetoff and Melanie Willhide, work with photography in a different way, thereby dispelling the notion of the photographic image as an objective representation of reality. This notion that photography is objective and easily reproducible is commonplace in today’s digital, networked world, but these artists dispute this by creating incredible and unique work, each utilizing their own techniques and processes.

Lucia Engstrom

Her series Lovers & Dreamers is a study of ethereal landscapes that integrate hand embroidered details to push the traditional boundaries of photography. Her lifelong passion for storytelling is palpable in each frame through her skillful use of light, color, and texture.

Bahar Kural

In When Time Played Along, Bahar Kural reimagines the lightness of youth through the language of abstraction. The skies, seas, and shores of memory dissolve into bands of pure color — yellow, coral, turquoise — each one an emotion rather than a place, expressing how a day once felt rather than how it appeared. By flattening the sky, mountains and sea into pure pigment, she strips away the familiar markers of place and time. Its youth remembered through the prism of time: heightened, simplified, and unreal in its perfection.

Carolyn Marks Blackwood

Coaxing painterly expression from a documentary device, Blackwood’s photographs reframe segments of air, ice and water into vivid color fields, geometric abstractions and flattened motifs. By removing perspective and context, her images seize ephemeral moments within everyday occurrences and heighten them into foreign, unfamiliar pictures.

Chromatopia features surreal images of Coachella Valley made with a camera sensitive to both visual and infrared spectra. The vivid color combinations are created in-camera using various archaic filters to control which wavelenths enter the lens.

Melanie Willhide

Willhide’s series, Elegy of the Garden, continues her life-project of photographic innovation while taking on her current subject—the environmental crisis—with an immediacy and emotional intensity that evokes witnessing a powerful storm and what it leaves. In Willhide’s work, what is left behind is always beautiful, even if only a memory.
