Christiane Feser’s current exhibition will be extended thru the summer. The exhibition will be edited from its original form to include some favorites from previous years laying out Feser’s visual evolution.
“Feser’s fundamental artistic purpose is the bending, capturing, refinement, and encapsulation of the properties of light. To make a functional partnership of the human eye and the mechanical lens. And there’s nothing more like a photograph than that. Graphically crisp, brooding, and a bit delirious at a distance, these works incite an absolutely jovial instinct to rush closer and figure out their secrets. This proximity and closer-paid attention is richly rewarded, as the eye slowly decodes the hyperreal effect as being, in fact, merely real.”
— Shana Nys Dambrot
“Feser overlaps several layers of depiction, and we as observers are not only put to the test but also confronted with [...] illusion. Feser exceeds the limits of photography while drawing attention to them at the same time. After all, her photographic constructs are both real and unreal. Consequently, not only do the objects on the images turn into ‘illusory objects,’ ghosts, as Roland Barthes once said, rather the images themselves are ‘illusory states’ which never existed, nor will they ever exist: they are quasi moments of visibility in which ‘time overlaps.”
—Claudia Tittel
“Since Plato, geometry has been regarded as the finding of truth.... Christiane turns aesthetic forms and formulas upside down through an alliance of conditions that is both contradictory and complex. ...Her images encounter a reality that we don’t always understand, but try to live with courage.”
—Michael Stoeber
